PS3 Pricing Information

Many people are still speculating on how much the Playstation 3 will cost, and the recent comments made by SCEE executive Georges Fornay. The high price he mentioned was in relation to the price of a Blu-ray disc player. Many experts have concluded that the sony ps3 will be evenly priced with the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Revolution. However, Fornay said that it would be cheap compared to other devices which use Blu-ray technology.

Sony has once again delayed the release of PS3, and this has annoyed many gamers who expected the system to arrive in the spring or summer of 2006. This will give Microsoft about a year to gain a large percentage of the market. The comments made by Fornay were the most detailed information provided on the price of the console yet. I'm not sure if Sony will be able to succeed of the make the system too expensive. Gamers are unlikely to pay $500 for a sony ps3 when a Xbox 360 only costs $300. The numerous delays of Sony have already prompted many gamers to buy an Xbox 360 instead of waiting.

My advice to anyone who wants a PS3 is to save your money if you don't already have it. If the console is indeed set to be released this year, I don't understand why Sony is taking so long to reveal the price. Revealing the price might actually be a smart marketing plan, as it will allow potential customers to save up money for it. If they release it in November, and it has a price tag which is higher than Xbox 360, many gamers may lose interest.

One of the Japanese executives at Sony claimed that people "will pay a high price for a superior system."I don't know if I agree with this assumption, simply because historical evidence doesn't agree with him. In many respects, the Sega Saturn was more powerful than the original Playstation, but the Playstation still one the war. Though sony ps3 may have a slight edge in power over the Xbox 360, this alone doesn't guarantee success. The number of available titles will play an important role, and I personally won't buy a PS3 if it doesn't have the quality titles I'm looking for.

In many respects, Sony is a struggling company. Though it once dominated the electronics market, Asian rivals such as Samsung and Hitachi have risen up to challenge them. Samsung has even surpassed Sony in many areas. Because of this, it is critical that Sony succeeds with the Playstation 3.
