You know, my friend purchased Soul Caliber 3 recently, and I've been playing it with the soul calibur 3 walkthrough and feel that it is one of the best games of the series, and in its genre. You now have the ability to create your own fighter and place them in a certain class, as well as customizing them.
But after purchasing Dead Or Alive Ultimate, the question that is lagging with me is why on earth didn't Namco put their flag ship fighting franchise online? What was the big idea?
The game's producer, Hiroaki Yotoriyama has said that, "At the current time, the online infrastructure is extremely different between countries, and there's people that can't enjoy network gaming. We've decided to concentrate on improving the [game's offline content] and its characters so that people all over the world will be able to have fun."
Are you kidding me? Apparently there are enough people that can enjoy network gaming because DOA, Street Fighter, and a bunch of other fighting game franchises have already done so. It is even speculated that the upcoming Virtual Fighter 5 will be online.
Our advice to Namco is this. Get with the program and get online with Soul Calibur 4. Don't annoy us by releasing a game that allows us to create a character that we can only show off to people sitting in our living room. People want to fight online. People want to be part of a global community. People want to be able to participate and fight people other than their friends and family.
Online fighting games are the next evolution of the genre. I personally think Namco was just being lazy with Soul Calibur 3, and did not want to put forth the effort to get the game online. Hiroaki Yotoriyama's excuse above is lame, to say the least. There is no reason Soul Calibur 3 shouldn't be online.
If Namco doesn't get online soon, they may become extinct. All their competitors are doing it. Why aren't they?
