V For Vendetta Review

V For Vendetta, starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving, is a movie which continues the great film legacy of the Wachowski Brothers. We have heard little from them since the release of the Matrix Revolutions, the fantastic conclusion one of the greatest franchises seen in history. After Watching Vendetta, the only thing I can say is that the Wachowski brothers did it again. I'm glad the v for vendetta movie canceled was not true.

As with the Matrix, Vendetta takes place in a world where the vast majority of the population is under control. A world were a powerful fascist like government dominates every aspect of life. A world which I believe we are headed towards in reality. In the film, Hugo Weaving plays V, a masked man in a black cape who rescues Evie(Natalie Portman) from being assaulted at the beginning of the film. It turns out that V is a powerful vigilante who reeks havoc on the corrupt British government.

Even though the film takes place in the near future, it raises questions that should resonate with those living in the US as well as the UK. The part in the movie where the detective questions the official story of attacks carried out by terrorists send a message to those who believe 911 or the 7/7 bombings were really terrorists, or the work of governments themselves, uses this as a pretext to exert control over their populations. This is the part of the movie that really impressed me. The Wachowski Brothers have done their homework, and are raising powerful questions.

The part of the movie which impressed me the most is when V kidnapped Evie and took her to a prison cell. He disguised himself, and she didn't know it was him. After reading the note of a woman who was formerly held prisoner in the cell, Evie was confronted by a figure which asks her if she wants to confess, or be taken behind the chemical shed and shot. Evie says that she would rather be killed, and this is when V reveals himself.

That part of the movie in my opinion is more powerful than any of the action sequences, though they were extremely impressive. The Wachowski Brothers have shown with Vendetta that they can produce a powerful movie which will interest those who are looking for both action, drama, and philosophy. A cinematic masterpiece. Ideas are indeed bullet proof.
